UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 March 20, 2024 Maureen R. Zawalick Vice President, Decommissioning and Technical Services Pacific Gas & Electric Company Mail code 104/6/608 P.O. Box 56 Avila Beach, CA 93424

SUBJECT:

COMPREHENSIVE REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR THE TECHNICAL REVIEW OF THE APPLICATION FOR RENEWAL OF THE DIABLO CANYON INDEPENDENT SPENT FUEL STORAGE INSTALLATION (CAC/EPID NOS. 001028/L-2022-RNW-0007)

Dear Maureen Zawalick:

By letter dated March 9, 2022, as supplemented on September 21, 2023, Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) submitted an application for renewal of License No. SNM-2511 for the Diablo Canyon Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession Nos. ML22068A189 and ML23264A859, respectively). By letter dated September 8, 2022, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff acknowledged acceptance of your application for a detailed technical review and provided a proposed schedule for its review (ML22238A239). This letter is intended to update the schedule and to request additional information.

In connection with the NRC staffs technical review, staff transmitted an initial request for additional information (RAI) by letter dated July 25, 2023 (ML23159A236), with the intent that a comprehensive set would be sent at a later date. The information requested in the enclosure completes that comprehensive RAI. We request that you provide this information 45 calendar days from the date of this letter. Inform us at your earliest convenience, but no later than 35 calendar days from the date of this letter, if you are not able to provide the information by that date. To assist us in rescheduling your review, you should include a new proposed submittal date and the reasons for the delay. Provided the RAI responses are adequate and received in the timeframe noted above, NRC now plans to complete the technical review process for the ISFSI in November 2024.

Please reference Docket No. 72-26 and CAC/EPID Nos. 001028/L-2022-RNW-0007 in future correspondence related to this request. The NRC staff is available to clarify these questions, and if necessary, to meet and discuss your proposed responses.

In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Section 2.390 of the NRCs Agency Rules of Practice and Procedure, a copy of this communication will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records component of the NRCs ADAMS. ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html (the Public Electronic Reading Room).
