By letter dated March 28, 2024 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System

[ADAMS] Accession No. ML24094A060), you submitted a request for exemption from certain requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Section 72.212, Conditions of general license issued under § 72.210, and 10 CFR 72.214, List of approved spent fuel storage casks, for the Maine Yankee Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff acknowledged receipt of your application by email dated April 22, 2024 (ML24120A048).

The NRC staff completed an acceptance review of your submittal and have identified no administrative omissions or deficiencies that would prevent us from proceeding with a detailed review. Your submittal has been assigned Cost Activity Code/Enterprise Project Identification Numbers 001028/L-2024-LLE-0015. Please reference these numbers and Docket Nos.50-039, 72-30, 72-1015 in any future correspondence associated with this request.

Please note that the NRC staffs detailed review of your submittal may identify issues that could require that you provide additional information. Based on our preliminary evaluation and projection of current review schedules, we anticipate completing our review in March 2025. This schedule includes the issuance, if needed, of a request for additional information (RAI) in September 2024, and receiving your response to the RAI 30 days after its issuance. Please note that these dates could change depending on the findings of our detailed review, urgent assignments, or other factors, such as whether your responses to the RAI are or are not adequate. The NRC staff estimates that completing the review of your submittal will require approximately 70 staff hours. We will promptly communicate significant schedule and/or cost changes.
