APPLICATION FOR RENEWAL OF THE DIABLO CANYON INDEPENDENT SPENT FUEL STORAGE INSTALLATION LICENSE NO. SNM-2511 - ACCEPTED FOR REVIEW (EPID NO. L-2022-RNW-0007)

By letter dated March 9, 2022, Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) submitted an application for renewal of License No. SNM-2511 for the Diablo Canyon Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)
Accession No. ML22068A189). The current license expires on March 22, 2024. The submittal of the renewal application was timely per the requirements of Title 10 Code of Federal Regulations 72.42(b). In the application, PG&E requested to renew the license for an additional 40 years.
U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff performed an acceptance review of your application to determine if the application contains sufficient technical information in scope and depth to allow the staff to conduct the detailed technical review.
This letter acknowledges acceptance of your application. The application appears to contain the information needed for the NRC staff to conduct a detailed technical review. We have established a schedule for the review and estimated that the staff may need approximately 1500 hours0.0174 days <br />0.417 hours <br />0.00248 weeks <br />5.7075e-4 months <br /> to complete its review. The schedule allows for the staff to complete its technical review and issue a request for additional information (RAI) in February 2023 and the license renewal in November 2023, based on you adequately responding to the RAI in April 2023. If no RAI is needed, and based on the staffs evaluation, the approval may be issued at an earlier time. If a RAI is needed, the staff will keep you informed of any schedule changes. In general, no additional changes to the application should be submitted except for changes resulting from your response to an RAI.
