report dat ed repteraber 5,1963 setting forth the results of field work at the site throug June 6.1913 has been suizzitted to the Atoado fncer,/ Ccaiacion by tJy? Department of the interior. A copy of an ACC public announcement concerning the report is enclosed. lou will note that, a further geological report has been requested from the '

Department of the Icterior.

Concerning the danger of an " atomic explosion", there it' no danger that a nuclear power reactor auch as that pnaposed for construction at Sodega f;ay will explode like an atomic bomb. In addition to external control systana, such reactors possess inherent characteristics which are self-lis:iting with respect to the rate of release of energy.

The %a, tor accidents which you describe is incredible with respect to arcr nuclear reactor whidh might be licensed by the Atorsic Energy Comaission.

The rosctor accident which occurred in 1961 at the Cocuission's stational Reactor Testing Station resulted in the loss of three' lives, not 110. The reactor involved, the SL 1, was an experi. j mental reactor, not a licensed reactor. The lives lost were those of operating p+rsonnel, not oca.sbers of the general public.
