Dear Dr. Murley:

1 Commonwealth Edison provided status on the implementation of Generic <

Letter 88-17, Loss of Decay Heat Removal, for Byron, Braidwood and Zion f Stations in reference (a). This letter provides an update on the status of 'l the Residual Heat removal (RHR) system iconic display at Byron and Braidwood j Stations.

Byron Station staff have designed a computer graphic for the Main Control Room. The graphic displays data in real time and reflects the status of the refueling water level and RHB pump parameters. The display is a mimic 3 of the reactor vessel, steam generator, pressurizer and RCP, and is to scale with respect to plant elevation. The screen displays bar graphs and literal values for the four refueling level instruments and a pressurizer level  !

Instrument. Also shown are the RHR pump suction and discharge pressures, <

discharge temperature and motor bearing temperatures.

This display software has been added to the Unit.1 Process Computer at Byron Station and is scheduled to be added to the Byron Unit 2 Process Computer by Augu..t 1, 1990. Braidwood Station is scheduled to install the display software on both units by January 15, 1991. Please direct any further questions regarding this matter to this office.

Very truly yours, lAw/.A h s T.K. Schuster Nuclear Licensing Administrator
