APPROVAL OF CHANGES IN ATWS/ANSAC DESIGN, NCGUIRE AND CATAWBA NUCLEAR STATIONS, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TACs 68427, 68429, 68429, AND 68430)
By letter of November 6,1987, the NRC approved the design of the ATWS j
Mitigation System Actuation Circuitry (AMSAC) for McGuire and Catawba Nuclear

Stations. Subsequently, by letter of June 1,1988, you informed us of changes j
to be trade in the approved AMSAC design and provided additional supporting information on September 9,1988 and June 2,1989.
The NRC has reviewed these subsequent changes and finds them to be acceptable.
Enclosed is our supplemental safety evaluation report to this end.
Our acceptance, in part, recognizes your previous commitment to conduct a human factors review of associated operating bypass controls in the control room, consistent with the station's detailed control room design process. We request to be notified upon completion of your human factors review, and we request that records of the review be maintained available for audit.
