Subject: INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-293/88-30
This letter refers to the NRC inspection of your activities to evaluate the
safety significance of two loose piping support base plate anchor bolts and to
assure the integrity of other installed pipe supports. This inspection was
conducted by Mr. Suresh K. Chaudhary and Mr. Joseph E. Carrasco of this office
on October 27 to November 18, 1988, at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station; at
your Engineering Office in Braintree, Massachusetts; and at the NRC Region I
office in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. As part of this inspection, several
telephone discussions were held between Messrs. S. K. Chaudhary, J. R. Strosnider
and other members of my staff and Messrs. R. Swanson, R. Fairbanks, and other
members of your staf f. These telephone discussions covered requests for
additional information and our findings with regard to the subject inspection.
Also, a management meeting to discuss this issue was held at the NRC Region I
office in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania on November 17, 1988.
Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I inspection
report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the inspection
consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative records,
interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspectors. Also included
in the enclosed report is a summary of the November 17 management meeting.
With-in the scope of this inspection, No violations were ebserved.
