PILGRIM INTEGRATED INSPECTION REPORT 50-293/98-10
Dear Mr. Sullivan:
On December 8,1998, the NRC completed an inspection at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power
Station in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The enclosed report presents the results of that
inspection.
I
During the seven weeks covered by this inspection period, the conduct of activities at the
Pilgrim facility was characterized by safe plant operations. This was evident by good
planning and execution during a down power evolution to conduct a control rod pattern
exchange and several surveillance activit!es. NRC regional specialists reviewed your
emergency preparedness (EP) and fire protection (FP) programs. The EP program was
found to be wellimplemented. Your EP response capability was maintained in a good state
of readiness. With respect to Fire Protection, we noted that internal reviews had resulted
in program improvement. Your efforts in this area were considered positive initiative.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter
and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
