PILGRIM INTEGRATED IN5?ECTION REPORT 50-293/98-08

Dear Mr. Sullivan:
On October 19,1998, the NRC completed an inspection at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power
Station in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The enclosed report presents the results of that
inspection.
During the six weeks covered by this inspection period, the conduct of activities at the
Pilgrim facility was characterized by safe plant operations. During this period, a chemical
decontamination of the residual heat removal system was well planned and implemented
which reduced radiation dose rates in the residual heat removal quadrants. This was
considered a positive initiative by the licensee to reduce overall radiation exposure at the
station.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter
and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR),
