Subject: Inspection No. 50-293/82-14

This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. D. J. Collins of

this office on May 17-21, 1982 at Plymouth, Massachusetts of activities authorized

by NRC License No. DPR-35 and to the discussions of our findings held by Mr.

Collins with Mr. W. J. Armstrong of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection,

and to a subsequent telephone discussion between Mr. E. Greenman of our, staff

and Mr. C. Mathis on July 8,1982.

l Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I Inspection

'

Report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the inspection

_

consisted of selective examinations of proce,dures and representative records,

interviews with personnel, measurements made by the inspectors, and observations

by the inspectors.

Our inspector also verified the steps you have taken to correct the violations

brought to your attention in letters dated March 8, 1978; August 17, 1978;

February 15, 1980; July 22, 1980; January 15, 1981; and June 8, 1981. We have

no further questions regarding the steps you took to correct item I referred

to in our March 8, 1978 letter; the items in our August 17, 1978 and February

, 15, 1980 letters; items C, D, F, G in our letter dated July 22, 1980; item A

in our January 15, 1981 letter; and item B in our June 8,1981 letter.

Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a), a copy of this letter and the enclosure

'

will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room unless you notify this office,

by telephone, within ten days of the date of this letter and submit written

,

application to withhold information contained therein within thirty days of

l the date of this letter. Such application must be consistent with the require-

ments of 2.790(b)(1). The telephone notification of your intent to request

withholding, or any request for an extension of the 10 day period which you

believe necessary, should be made to the Supervisor, Files, Mail and Records,

USNRC Region I, at (215) 337-5223.
