Subject: Inspection Report No. 50-293/85-14
This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. F. Paulitz of
this office on May 28-31, 1985 at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, Plymouth,
Massachusetts of activities authorized by NRC License No. DPR-35 and to the
discussions of our findings held by Mr. Paulitz with Mr. C. Mathis and other
members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I
Inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the
inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative
records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed.
During the course of this inspection we reviewed the status of your corrective
actions for noncompliance item 81-22-01 which occurred on September 12, 1981.
The long term corrective actions were not complete nor were they scheduled for
completion in the near future. Subsequently, on July 30, 1985, your correc-
tive action program was discussed in a telephone conversation between Mr. J.
I Durr and Mr. C. Mathis. Mr. Mathis specified a tentative schedule of September
[ 30, 1986 to complete the long term corrective action program. Mr. Mathis

committed to sending an approved final schedule to this office for this program
within the next two weeks.
