APPLICATION FOR RENEWAL OF THE NAC-UMS CASK SYSTEM CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE NO. 1015 - ACCEPTED FOR REVIEW (EPID NO. L-2020-RNW-0031)

==Dear Mr. Fowler:==

By {{letter dated|date=October 13, 2020|text=letter dated October 13, 2020}}, (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML20293A102), NAC International (NAC) submitted an application for renewal of Certificate of Compliance (CoC) No. 1015 for the NAC Universal Multipurpose Systems (NAC-UMS). The current certificate was set to expire on November 20, 2020.
Because the submittal of the renewal application was more than 30 days before the expiration of the CoC, the application was timely per the requirements of 10 CFR 72.240(b). In the application, NAC requested to renew the certificate for an additional 40 years. U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff performed an acceptance review of your application to determine if the application contains sufficient technical information in scope and depth to allow the staff to conduct the detailed technical review.
This letter acknowledges acceptance of your application. The application appears to contain the information needed for the NRC staff to conduct a detailed technical review. We have established a schedule for the review and estimated that the staff may need approximately 1500 hours to complete its review. The schedule allows for the staff to complete its technical review and issue a request for additional information (RAI) in October 2021. If NAC provides a sufficient response to the RAI in January 2022, and a second RAI is not needed, the CoC would be submitted to Rulemaking in August 2022. Rulemaking is estimated to take 6 months, and if there are no significant adverse comments received during the comment period, the CoC will become effective in February 2023. In general, no additional changes to the application should be submitted except for changes resulting from your response to a RAI.
