This ' refers to'the routine safety-inspection conducted by P. Bissett of this

office on September. 14-18, 1987, at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, Plymouth,

Massachusetts, of activities authorized by NRC License No. DPR-35 and to the

discussions of our findings held by Mr. Bissett, with Mr. K. Roberts and other

members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

Areas examined during this inspection are . described in the NRC Region I

Inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the

inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative

records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector.

Our inspector also verified the steps you have taken to correct three of the

. four violations brought to your attention in our letter dated March 10, 1987.

We have no further questions regarding your response to violations A, C and D.

In regard to violation B, your attention is directed to Paragraph 2.6 of the

enclosed inspectien report, which discusses our subsequent review of this

violation. As a result of 1) our meeting with representatives of your staff

on May 1,'1987; and, 2) your subsequent letter, dated June 8, 1987 in response

to our letter dated March 10, 1987, a further review of this violation

- (293/87-04-04) was conducted during this inspection. Based upon the results

of.this review, we withdraw the Notice of Violation, detailed in Appendix A of

inspection report 50-293/87-04.

Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed.

No reply to this letter is required. Your cooperation with us in this matter

is appreciated.
