3 Attn: Mr. Dorwin Hunter Docket No. 50-267

SUBJECT:

10CFR50.49 Environmental Qualification of Electrical Equipment Important to Safety for Nuclear Power Plants

REFERENCE:

PSC letter dated 3/28/85 Warembourg to Johnson (P-85112)

Dear Mr. Hunter:

In the referenced letter, PSC comitted to revising the appropriate Emergr.ncy Procedures to provide a clearer course of action for the operator during a steam line break. To increase operator awareness of actions required following a major steam line rupture, PSC has given all operators specific training on the detailed actions required to assure breat isolation within the four minutes designated in the Fort St. Vrain licensing basis. Due to additional items being pursued in our environmental qualification program (e.g. a new Steam Pipe Rupture Detection System), we anticipate future revisions to the Emergency Procedures. We conclude that procedure revisions at this time will cause more confusion than clarity for the operators. We are therefore deferring the revisions discussed in the referenced letter to coincide with our final environmental qualification program documentation. The schedule for these actions will be included with future correspondence. / )
