SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-267/97-01
Dear Ms. Fisher:

An NRC inspection was conducted March 10 through 11,1997, at your Fort St. Vrain (FSV)
Nuclear Generating Station facility. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of
that inspection.
i
The purpose of the inspection was to determine whether your Decommissioning Plan
]
activities authorized by the 10 CFR Part 50 license were conducted safely and in accordance
j
with NRC requirements. At the conclusion of the inspection, the findings were discussed
with those members of your staff identified in the enclosed report.
l
Within the. areas inspected, the inspector found that the final decommissioning activities had.
]
been conducted as required by the Decommissioning Plan. Selected exposure rate surveys
i
performed by the inspector found that radiation levels were below the guidelines established
j
by the FSV Decommissioning Plan and NRC Regulatory Guide 1.86," Termination of
l
Operating Licenses for Nuclear Reactors."

in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and

its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR),
