Dear Mr. Norris:
This letter responds to your November 12,1997, letter. You requested clarification as to whether the increase in Tritium and Iron 55 contamination limits that were approved for Fort St.
Vrain apply to all U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission licensees. The answer is no; requests for exceptions to the Regulawy Guide 1.8e surface contamination limits for other facilities must be reviewed by NRC on a case by case Ons. However, note that we are d9veloping guidance to implement our new Licer a Termination Rule, which was published on July 21,1997 The new guidance will be avanavie ia 1998.

This letter responds to your November 12,1997, letter regarding SECY 94-145, " Increase of Tritium and Iron 55 Unrestricted Use Limits For Surface Contamination at Fort St. Vrain.' You requested clarification as to whether the increase in Tritium and Iron 55 limits that were approved for Fort St.Vrain in SECY 94145 apply to all U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission licensees. The answer is no; the limits are only applicable to Fort St.Vrain at this time.
