Docket No. 50-456

Docket lio. 50-457

Commonwealth Edison Company

ATTN: Mr. Cordell Reed

Senior Vice President

Post Office Box 767

Chicago, IL 60690

Gentlemen:

This refers to the routi e safety inspection conducted by Mr. F. Maura

of this office on April 19-27, 1988, of the actions taken regarding previous

inspection items at the Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2 authorized by NRC

Operating Licenses No. NPF-72 and NPF-75 and to the discussion of our findings

with Mr. D. E. O'Brien at the conclusion of the inspection.

The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during

the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective

examination of procedures and representative records, observations, and

interviews with personnel.

No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the course of this

inspection.

In a letter dated March 23, 1988, from Mr. L. D. Butterfield to Mr. A. B. Davis,

Comonwe'lth Edison disagreed with two of the violations contained in our

February ,,1988, letter to you. These violations dealt with failure to record

deficient conditions involving test BwPT RY-50, and failure to review procedures

for adequacy involving test BwPT-RC-52. We have reviewed both violations, in

paragraphs 2.k and 2.n respectively, in the attached report. Based on our

review, we are withdrawing as an example of violation the failure to record a

deficient condition during the performance of BwPT RY-50. However, the

violation associated with test BwPT RC-52 is still applicable.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Comission's regulations, a copy of

this letter and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC

Public Document Room.
