SUBJECT:

BRAIDWOOD INSPECTION REPORT 50-456/99002(DRP); 50-457/99002(DRP)

Dear Mr. Kingsley:

i

On March 1,1999, the NRC completed an inspection at your Braidwood Units 1 and 2 reactor

facilities. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection. During the 6-week period

covered by this inspection, your conduct of activities was generally characterized by safety-

conscious operations, sound engineering and maintenance practices, and careful radiological

!

work controls.

Activities which were of particular note included your operators' performance in addressing

failures of the Unit 1 annunciator inverters. Control room operators promptly assessed the

Unit 1 and Unit 0 annunciator system status, declared an unusual event, made the proper

notifications, identified the inoperable annunciators, and implemented compensatory actions.

Also, control room supervisors demonstrated an excellent safety focus when they performed an

annunciator-by-annunciator review of the inoperable annunciator windows to identify available

indications to monitor system status.
