SUBJECT:

NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-456/99013(DRS); 50-457/99013(DRS)

Dear Mr. Kingsley:

,

On August 24,1999, the NRC completed an AE engineering follow-up inspection at your

Braidwood Units 1 and 2 reactor facilities. The enclosed report presents the results of that

inspection.

The inspection focused on your corrective actions and activities to address the technical

- 3

concerns identified by the AE inspection team during the design inspection completed on

April 24,1998. The team identified weaknesses in timeliness of corrective actions, test

program and procedures, and evaluation of generic communications.

Overall, our inspection results indicated that your corrective actions were effective in addressing

the concerns identified by the team and steps were taken to prevent recurrence of the noted

problems.

Based on the results of this inspection, the NRC has determined that three violations of

NRC requirements occurred. These violations are being treated as Non-Cited Violations

(NCV's) consistent with Appendix C of the Enforcement Policy. These NCVs are described

in the subject inspection report. If you contest either the severity level or the violation itself,

you should provide a response within 30 days of the date of this inspection report, with the

basis for your denial, to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, ATTN: Document Control

Desk, Washington DC 20555-0001, with copies to the Regional Administrator, Region Ill,

and the Director, Office of Enforcement, United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission,

Washington, DC 20555-0001.
