Dear Sir:

The Nuclear Regulatory Comission (NRC) Region III has received an allegation concerning unmanned fire watches on November 26, 1987. Watch standers may have been absent from required posts both during the incident in question r and when the two employees involved were escorted offsite by Newburg supervision.

Region III requests that you review this allegation to determine the safety '

significance for Braidwood Station. You should address the consequences of the specific incident as well as the subsequent control of fire watches.

The results of your review should be provided to Region III by February 29, 1988, to support full-power licensing of Braidwood Unit 2.
