Dear Mr. Denton:

This is to provide revised weld examination tables for the Byron 1 Preservice Inspection Program Plan. The enclosed tables supercede completely those provided in the Preservice Program Plan (the Plan) and in the supplement which were provided in reference (a). At the request of the NRC, these tables are in a format similar to that of tables IWB-2500-1 and IWC-2500-2 o f ASME Section XI.

Appendix A to the Plan is also enclosed. It explains the twelve notes used in the tables to clarify the extent of examinations performed on particular items. No relief from NRC requirements is being requested on these items.

Relief is requested on the items covered in the enclosed Appendix B to the Plan. Each request in this document identifies the welds for which the required volumetric examination is not practical and provides the justification for the requested relief.

Two of these requests were transmitted previously in reference (b) and are included here without alteration. Additional relief may be requested as the need arises.
