Byron Station Units 1 and 2 NPDES Permit NRC Docket Nos. 50-454 and 50-455 Gentlemen:
Commonwealth Edison is the holder of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit W. ILOO48313 for Byron Station. A modification to the permit was issued April 14, 1988 by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. The permit has been modified to return the pH monitoring frequency of the sewage treatment plant effluent to twice per month.
This notification of a change to the NPDES Permit fulfills the reporting requirement specified in section 3.2 of Appendix B of Facility Operating Licenses NPF-37 and NPF-66. The modified permit is enclosed with this letter.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has examined the request for modification of the above-referenced NPDES Pemit as stated in your letters of January 8 and January 11, 1988. Our final detemination is to modify the Pemit as follows:
Per your request of January 11, 1988 the frequency for monitoring the pH of Outfall 001(b) Sewage Treatment Plant, has been corrected by restoring the monitoring frequency to twice per morith as in the reissued NPDES Pemit for the subject facility dated April 28, 1986.
The Agency is unable to grant your request of January 8,1988, to delete monitoring of Outfalls 001(e) and 002 Construction Runoff, because your request is inconsistent with a Effl uent limitations frr Outfall 001(e)pplicable regulations for pH, total suspended and/or solids policy.
