This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Dr. R. B. Holtzman
of this office on March 3-4, 1987, of activities at Byron Nuclear Generating
Station, Units 1 and 2, authorized by NRC Operating Licenses No. NPF-37 and
No. NPF-66, and to the discussion of our findings with Mr. R. C. Ward and
others of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection. Additional telephone
discussions were held with members of your staff: D. Herrmann, Braidwood
Station, on March 6, and 16 1987, and R. Luczak, Technical Support Center, on
March 6, 9, and 16, 1987.
The enclosed copy of our inspection re) ort identifies areas examined during
the inspection. Within these areas, t1e inspection consisted of a selective
examination of procedures and representative records, observations, and
inter /iews with personnel.
No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the course of this
inspection.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a co)y
of this letter and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in tie
NRC Public Document Room.
