This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Messrs. W. J. Kropp, '
R._N..Sutphin, and Ms. D. R. Calhoun of this office from May 13 through
June 30, 1990, of activities at the Byron Station, Units 1 and 2, authorized
by NR', Operating Licenses No. NPF-37 and No. NPF-66, and to the discussion of
our findings with Mr. R. Pleniewicz and others of your staff at the conclusion
of the inspection.

The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during 'j
the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective j
examinat bn of procedures and representative records, observations, and i
interviews with personnel. ,
No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the course of this !
inspection. t
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790~ of the Co=1ssion's regulations, a copy of j
