Thank you for your letter of January 15, 1973 discussing the results-of the valve ball thickness verifiestfon program at Yankee-Fowe (bpR-3) as requested in our letter of June 22, 1972.
We t.re not in agreenent with your conclusion that five of the stain-less accel reactor coolant loop isolation valves do not necd to be verified since the other three tr.cet N.SI P.16.5, and the plant history records no failures. The fact that ultrasonic s.casurcrents were
- successful on three valves but unsuccessf ul on the rer.nining five concerno un. An ultraconic technique for deterajning vall thickneac in which only three of cipht valves were measurabic due to the vnria-tien in grain otructure. does not appear to hr.vc produced the r'ecuired results. It rny be necessary to develop an altercate ecched which will produce the dirensional data necessary to confira the wall thickness of these five valves.
