REACTOR PRESSURE VESSEL EVALUATION REPORT FOR YANKEE NUCLEAR POWER STATION, (YNPS) YANKEE ATOMIC ELECTRIC COMPANY (TAC NO. 76958)
In a letter dated July 5, 1990, from John D. Haseltine, the Yankee Atomic Electric Company (the licensee) submitted for staff review a report entitled,
" Reactor Pressure Vessel Evaluation Report for Yankee Nuclear Power Station."
Your subm1ttal provided probabilisfic analyses that indicates that the through-wall crack frequency is less than 7X10~ pgr reactor year, which is significantly below the criteria in RG-1.154 (5X10 per reactor year). The staff review is not complete. We need to determine the sensitivity of the YNPS reactor vessel to material properties. To provide a sensitivity study, the statt requests you to perform a PTS probabilistic analysis using a broad range of material properties-including mean value reference temperature well above those used in the YNPS report of July 5.
The staff will need to receive the results of.these analyses as soon as feasible.
