This. letter transmits the-report of'the special maintenance team inspection' led

by Mr. D.' Caphton of this office from July 9 to July 20, 1990, and August 6-to-

August 10, 1990, at the Yankee Nuclear Power Station, Rowe, Massachusetts.,

Mr. Caphton discussed'the team's findings with you and other members of your

staff on July 20, 1990, and after the follow-up inspection on August 10, 1990.

This inspection was performed as part of NRC's industry wide effort to evaluate

the effectiveness'of maintenance activities at licensed power reactors. The

team concluded that a generally acceptable maintenance program is being imple-

mented at the Yankee Nuclear Power Station.

to enhance your maintenance activities in the areas where weaknesses were

identified and to resolve the identified unresolved item.
