SUMMARY
OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALL CALLAWAY LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION January 28, 2014 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Union Electric Company d/b/a Ameren Missouri (the applicant) held a telephone conference call on January 28, 2014, to discuss the applicant's Commitments Nos. 34 and 35 on Callaway's Safety Evaluation Report with Open Items.
Commitments Nos. 34 and 35 Implementation Discussion:
The applicant stated that inspection of the steam generators (SGs) will be performed between Fall 2025 and 2029 when the SGs have at least 20 years of operation and if an analysis were to be provided it would be provided before the inspections would be performed.
The staff indicated it was concerned that if an analysis were provided too close to the performance of the inspections, the staff may not have enough time to review it. The staff requested the applicant modify the commitments to indicate that if an analysis was submitted to the NRC, it would provide the analysis well before (e.g., 2 years) the scheduled inspection to permit time for the staff to review the analysis. The applicant understood the staff's concern and stated that it will revise the implementation of Option 2 in Commitments Nos. 34 and 35 to provide ample review time for the staff.
Action: Applicant will revise Commitments Nos. 34 and 35 on their next License Renewal Application Amendment.
