CONCERNING REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION PERTAINING TO THE CALLAWAY PLANT UNIT 1, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC. NO. ME7708)

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Union Electric Company (Ameren Missouri or the applicant) held a telephone conference call on December 18, 2013, to discuss and clarify the applicants technical comment No. 41 on Callaways Safety Evaluation Report with Open Items. The discussion is also associated with Ameren Missouris responses to the staffs requests for additional information concerning the Callaway Plant Unit 1 license renewal application. The discussion is a followup to the telephone conference call held on November 26, 2013. provides a listing of the participants and Enclosure 2 contains a description of the staff concerns discussed with the applicant. A brief description on the status of the items is also included.

OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALL CALLAWAY PLANT, UNIT 1 LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION December 18, 2013 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Union Electric Company (Ameren Missouri or the applicant) held a telephone conference call on December 18, 2013, to discuss and clarify the applicants technical comment on the Safety Evaluation Report with Open Items and associated response to requests for additional information (RAIs) concerning the Callaway license renewal application (LRA). This was a followup to the telephone conference call held on November 26, 2013.

Technical Comment No. 41: Flow-Accelerated Corrosion Program Discussion: The staff stated that based on additional internal agency discussions, Ameren Missouris use of a 10 percent increase in allowable stresses within Engineering Design Guide ME-013 for evaluations of wall thickness due to corrosion and erosion appeared to be inconsistent with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Code.

The applicant stated that it now recognized its response to RAI B2.1.7-5a was not clear with respect to the 10 percent increase and proposed to supplement the RAI response to provide additional clarification.

Action: The applicant will supplement its response to RAI B2.1.7-5a.
