The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or staff) and representatives of Union Electric Company (Ameren), held a telephone conference call on August 29,2012. The purpose of the call was to discuss and clarify two of the staff's requests for additional information (RAls) concerning the Callaway Plant, Unit 1 (Callaway) license renewal application. provides a listing of the participants and Enclosure 2 contains a listing of the RAls discussed with the applicant, including a brief description on the outcome of the call.

TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALL REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION CONCERNING THE CALLAWAY PLANT, UNIT 1, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Union Electric Company (Ameren) held a telephone conference call on August 29,2012, to further clarify the following Environmental Set 1 requests for additional information (RAls) concerning the license renewal application (LRA).

Hydrology and Water Quality - Groundwater

2. Confirm and provide documentation that the groundwater sample reported in the ER (Table 2.3-2) was analyzed for strontium, rather than only for the isotope of strontium (strontium-90).

4. To adequately describe groundwater quantity impacts, NRC needs to know the source or sources of the water that flows into the groundwater sump (i.e., What aquifers are being impacted or are there other sources for the water?). In responding to this request, explain why you believe the groundwater is being supplied from that source or sources that are identified in the response. If there are other sumps in the basements of the buildings of the power block collecting groundwater, estimate the rate of groundwater collected from those sources. Provide cross section drawings.

Conclusion The call further clarified the RAls, Ameren understood the requests and will provide a written response.
