P. O. Box 968 3000 George Washington Way Richland, Washington 99352 Attention: G. C. Sorensen, Manager Regulatory Programs Gentlemen:

This will acknowledge receipt of your July 15, 1987, letter to Mr. John B.

Martin that transmitted the complete scenario package for the WNP-2 annual emergency exercise.

On August 5,1987 Ms. Gail Good of my staff held a telephone conversation with Mr. A. F. Klauss, and other members of your staff, to discuss the results of our evaluation of your scenario package. During the telephone conversation, your staff provided clarification on a number of issues and agreed to correct several minor items that we identified during our review. There were two issues which required re-examination by your staff prior to the exercise. One issue involved a source of radiological data and the second involved field team data. It is our understanding that any changes to the scenario, occurring between now and the date of the exercise, will be provided to the NRC team members the week of the exercise.

The contents of the scenario package were discussed with FEMA, Region X.

FEMA stated that they had reviewed your submission and had no comments for us to relay to you.

It is our conclusion that, in general, the scenario package is adequate to permit you to meet the agreed upon exercise objectives submitted to us by your letter dated June 17, 1987.

Sincerely, i

R. F. Fish, Chief Emergency Preparedness Section cc: R. Donovan, FEMA, Region X R. Chitwood, WPPSS A. Klauss, WPPSS
