Dear Mr. Keppler:

In accordance with Reference 1, this report is notification of a plant condition which lead to operation in a degraded mode permitted by a limiting condition for operation.

The results of an analysis of a lubricating oil sample taken from the sump of emergency diesel generator lA on July 21, 1978 were re-ceived on' August 11, 1978. The analysis, which was performed at the laboratory of the lubrication oil company indicated that dilu-tion with fuel oil amounted to 9.8%. The oil company representative recormended that the engine lubricating oil for this engine be changed.

The emergency diesel generator lA was taken out of service for a temporary period during reactor operation to permit an oil change to be made. The action statement "a" of Reference 2 was fulfilled in compliance with the provisions of Technical Specifications.
