M June 9, 1998 Mr. Ted Harris, Principal Viroqua High School 100 Blackhawk Drive Viroqua, Wisconsin 54665

Dear Principal Harris:

On behalf of the staff of the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, I would like to express our appreciation for the support you provided for the recent public meeting we held at the Viroqua High School on the decommissioning of the Lacrosse Boiling Water Reactor (LACBWR). It was an important meeting that dealt with issues of substantial public interest.

All of your staff were responsive to our needs for meeting room accommodations. The large lecture hall provided sufficient space for the 50 or more members of the public to hear our presentations, ask questions, and make comment.

Having a suitable location for the conduct of public meetings in the vicinity of nuclear power plants is an important step in achieving our goal of providing appropriate opportunities for public participation in our regulatory programs. We appreciate your  ;

willingness to provide the services that contributed to that important function. {

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely, I l
