This will acknowledge receipt of your letter dated October 13,1998, in response to our

letter dated September 17,1998, transmitting the Predecisional Enforcement Conference
Summary and Exercise of Enforcement Discretion concerning compliance with the maintenance
rule. We understand your corrective actions have developed a program you believe meets the
maintenance rule and we have no further questions at this time. These corrective actions will be
'
examined during future inspections to ensure the program established meets the requirements
of the maintenance rule.

believe meets the NRC interpretation of the maintenance rule. This program contains key aspects

of the maintenance rule (10 CFR 50.65), including those specifically necessary to adequately

identify structures, systems, and components (SSCs) to be monitored under the rule and to

adequately . establish goals and implement monitoring for those SSCs.
