REACTOR, LA CROSSE, WI (INSPECTION REPORT 50 409/97001(DNM8)

Dear Mr. Berg:

' During the period from December 9,1997 through January 7,1998, the NRC conducted an

, inspection of activities at your La Crosse Boiling Water Reactor, with an emphasis on

decommiss6oning activities. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.

Activities in the areas of facility managemer4, decommissioning support, spent fuel safety, and

radiological safety were examined during the inspection.

Overall pt,<formance during decommissioning activities was good. All activities inspected were l'

4' conducted in compliance with the Decommission Plan, the Quality Assurance Program and the

Technical Specifications. <

in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter and the

enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room. l
