The staff has reviewed the Duquesne Light Company (DLC) submittal (Ref.1)

-dealing with alternative pipe break criteria that would eliminate arbitrary

. intermediate pipe breaks in high energy piping systems at Beaver Valley Power Station,~ Unit 2 (BVPS-2). Our evaluation of your submittal is

, attached. Based on our review of the justification for elimination of arbitrary intermediate: breaks given.in Enclosures B and E of your submittal, we have concluded that your. request is acceptable.

This subject is being treated as a justified deviation from Section 3.6.2 of the Standard Review Plan (SRP). Action to revise the SRP Section 3.6.2 to eliminate arbitrary intermediate breaks is a recomendation of the NRC

Piping Review Committee (NUREG-1061, Volume 5).

Subsequent to NRC approval of;this request, DLC is. required to revise the . l FSAR, Section 3.6.(B) to reflect these changes to the postulated pipe break criteria.
