Dear Mr. Sieber:

OGC SUBJFCT: RE00EST FOR SUPPORT DURING SITE INSPECTION AT BEAVER VALLEY UNIT 2 (TAC 62885)

The purpose of this letter is to confirm our plan +.0 conduct a site inspection as part of our efforts to resolve the issue of differential settlement of buried pipes. We have discussed the inspection with Mr. G. Beatty of your i staff and agreed that May 17, 1989 is a mutually conver:ient date.

The inspection will be conducted by Mr. Raman Pichumani of the NRC staff. He plans to (1) inspect the ongoing settlement monitoring and review the settlement data pertaining to structures in the vicinity of the buried service water system (SWS) pipes, (2) review details of the settlement calculations for buried SWS pipelines running from the intake structure to the valve pit, and (3) discuss the results of the review of the settlement data and the calculations with your staff. l Please ensure that Mr. Pichumani, who holds an L-clearance badge, has access to site areas of interest for his review, and ensure that appropriate technical personnel are available to support this inspection effort. We will work with Mr. Beatty on the details.

Sincerely, 1
