The NRC staff has completed its review of the Texas Utilities Generating  ;

Company letter (TXX-4400, January 21,1985) requesting authorization to use ASME Code Case N-378 for application in the examination of bottom mounted instrumentation seal tables for Comanche Peak Units 1 and 2, Docket

Nos. 50-445 and 50-446.

Code Case N-378, " Examination of Piping Support Material,Section III, Division 1. Class 1," is an acceptable Code Case and is approved by the Comission for general use and may be used in the examination of bottom mounted instrumentation seal tables for Comanche Peak Units I and 2.

l Code Case N-378 is approved as written with no additional requirements other than those specified in the Code Case. This Code Case will be identified as acceptable in Revision 23 of Regulatory Guide 1.85 which will be issued in the near future.

Use of the Code Case should be documented in a future Amendment to the FSAR.

Spence Since there is extensive testimony by your representatives and the staff on the use of Section III of the ASME Code for Comanche Peak, the staff requests that you perform a careful review of the hearing record to identify where the use of this Code Case might affect the earlier testimony before the ASLB. You should also assess whether the use of this Code Case affects any other signif-icant information relating to Comanche Peak, including CYGNA evaluations, and NRC TRT, SRT, or CAT reviews, and whether it would affect commitments made at the Construction Permit stage. Please advise the staff of your findings.
