Gendemen:

This refers to the inspection conducted by Messrs. J. E. Cummins and B. L.

Bartlett of_ this office during the period September 1 to October 4,1985, of

. activities authorized by NRC Operating License No. NPF-42 for the Wolf Creek

Generating Station, and to the discussion of our findings with Mr. F. T.

Rhodes and other members of 'your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

Areas examined during the inspection included plant status, followup on

previously identified items, operational safety verification, engineered ~

safety features system walkdown, startup test data rev_iew, onsite followup of

.

events, onsite followup of written reports of nonroutine events, fire

. protection / housekeeping, monthly maintenance observation, monthly

' surveillance observation, allegation followup, plant safety parameter display

'

' system; security, and plant tours. Within these areas, the inspection

consisted of selective examination of procedures and representative records,

int'erviews with personnel, and observations by the inspectors. These

'

findings are documented in the enclosed inspection report.

During this inspection, five violations of NRC requirements were identified.

These violations are described in the Notice of Violation provided to you under

separate cover.

We have also examined actions you have taken with regard to previously

identified inspection findings. The status of these items is identified in

paragraph 3 of the enclosed report.

The r'esponse directed by this letter and the accompanying hotices are not

subject to the clearance procedures of the Office of Management and Budget as

required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, PL 96-511.
