Post Office Box 411 Burlington, KA 66839 i

SUBJECT:

WITHDRAWAL OF AMENDMENT REQUEST REGARDING THE ULTIMATE HEAT SINK TEMPERATURE FOR WOLF CREEK GENERATING STATION (TAC NO MA4601)

Dear Mr. Maynard:

The Commission issued Amendment No.125 to the Wolf Creek Generating Station (WCGS) in its letter dated July 8,1999.- The amendment consisted of changes to Technical Specification (TS) 3.7.5 regarding the maximum allowed value of the ultimate heat sink temperature in response to your application dated January 12,1999, as supplemented by letters dated May 11 and June 30,1999. The' amendment is effective only through September 30,1999.

In the letter of June 30,1999, you proposed a maximum plant inlet water temperature of 95*F; however, the amendment only approved a maximum value of 94*F to allow the amendment to be within the scope of the no significant hazards considerations published in the Federal Register on February 24,1999 (64 FR 9203) and to be issued before the hot weather period of July and August 1999 in and around WCGS.

In the conference call of September 8,1999, your staff withdrew the request to raise the maximum plant inlet temperature from 94*F to 95*F because the hot weather period of 1999 has passed and the amendment will expire within about 3 weeks. The Commission has filed the enclosed Notice of Withdrawal of Application for Amendment to Facility Operating License with I

the Office of the Federal Register for publication.
