Docket Nos. 50-313 and 50-368 Mr. T. Gene Campbell Vice President, Nuclear Arkansas Power and Light Company Post Office Box 551 Little Rock, Arkansas 72203

Dear Mr. Campbell:

SUBJECT:

ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE, UNITS 1 & 2 SAFETY EVALUATION OF THE SAFETY PARAMETER DISPLAY SYSTEM (SPDS) ISOLATION DEVICF TEST RESULTS (TAC NOS. 71251 AND 71252)

Completion of the staff's review of the safety parameter display system design for Arkansas Nuclear One, Units 1. and 2 (ANO-1&2) had been delayed in the past because of a. lack of information to support the adequacy of the electrical isolation devices. The SPDS review TAC Nos. (51219 and 51220) were closed on December 13, 1988 based on your commitment to supply isolation device test results by February 28, 1989. You fulfilled this commitment and this letter

. transmits our safety evaluation (SE) of this aspect of your SPDS design.

Regarding your SPDS as a whole, the staff's previous plans to issue an SE for ANO-1&2 was superceded by Generic Letter 89-06. Therefore, no additional AND-1&2 plant-specific SPDS SEs will be issued. Comments pertaining to your July 17, 1989 " Task Action Plan Item 1.D.2 -

Safety Parameter response to Generic Display System Letter

- 10 CFR 89-06(f)," will be provided separately 50.54 (TAC Nos. 73626 and 73627).

We have completed our review of the test results for the SPDS Isolation Devices which you submitted in your letter dated February 28, 1989. Based on our review of the information provided, we have concluded that the isolation devices were properly tested and are acceptable for use in the AN0 SPDS.
