-By letter dated August 27, 1990, Entergy Operations requested to use sleeves and plugs-fabricated of the I-690 material as an alternative to I-600 for

• repairs of the steam generators at Arkansas Nuclear One,' Units 1 and 2 (ANO 182).  ;

The I-690 material has mechanical properties similar to'I-600 and has superior 4 corrosion resistance properties. The NRC staff endorsed the use of I-690 forL fabrication of mechanical plugs for-steam generator tubes in NRC -Ilet h No.

Therefore, based on the above, 1 690 in the requisite product-forms is acceptable as an alternativetotheuseof1-600,and.itsuseforsleevingandplugging)tubesin steamgeneratorsisauthorizedundertheprovisionsof10-CFR50.55a(a(3).

! The 1-690 material has mechanical properties similar to I-600 and has superior corrosion resistance properties. The NRC staff endorsed.the use of I-690 for fabrication of mechanical plugs-for steam generator tubes in NRC Bulletin No.

89-01, " Failure of Westinghouse Steam Generator-Tube Mechanical Plugs", May 15, 1989. Based-on the above, I-690 is acceptable as an alternative to I-600.
