FARLEY CATEGORY I COOLING WATER STORAGE POND DAM

Dear Mr. Gotzmer:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has received the draft operation inspection report for the Farley Nuclear Station Cooling Water Pond dam. The report was dated April 1,1999.

The draft report states that there is no condition that would present an immediate threat to the safety and permanence of the project structures. Five suggestions were made to improve the maintenance and instrumentation checks for the structures.

NRC staff has reviewed the draft document, and is in agreement with your findings. Prior to issuance of the Final Report, we request that if there are significant changes, Mr. Robert L.

Bryant, P.E., of your office, discuss your findings with us. We would appreciate receiving the final report within 30 days of the date of this letter. If you have any questions regarding this correspondence, please call Mr. Daniel Rom at (301) 415-6704.
