Gentlemen:

This refers to the inspection conducted by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)

during the period of May 14 through June 1,1990, of activities authorized by

NRC Operating Licenses DPR-51 and NPF-6 for Arkansas Nuclear One (ANO), Units 1

and 2.

At the conclusion of the inspection, our findings were discussed with

Mr. J. Yelverton and other members of your staff.

The purpose of this inspection was to evaluate the ability of the service

water systems for ANO, Units 1 and 2, to perform their safety functions,

in

addition, a limited assessment was performed of the engineering support provided

to ANO. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examination

of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and

observations by the inspectors. The inspection findings are documented in the

enclosed inspection report. This report includes specific inspection followup

fordiagnosticevaluationteamfindings(referenceDiagnosticEvaluationTeam

Report issued December 21,1989).

We have also examined actions you have taken with regard to other previously

identified inspection findings. The status of these items is discussed in

paragraphs 3.3.3 and 3.3.8 of the enclosed report.

Within the areas inspected, no violations or deviations were identified.

Should you have any questions concerning this inspection, we will be pleased to

discuss them with you.

Sincerely,

Original S6gnod By:
