This refers to your letter of May 22, 1963, in vnich you expressed concern with respect to the proposed construction of a nuclear

power reactor at Bodega Head, California particularly regarding y

the proximity of the proposed site to the San Andreas Fault.

At the Commission's request, the U. 8. Geological Survey has been

.h~3 conducting a thorough field study of the geology of Bodega Head-Lj since early May. In addition, expert consultants have been retained y

to assist the ABC Regulatory staff in evaluating pacific: Gas &

jJ Electric Company's application with respect to the seismology of the area and structural design of the pawposed plant. Final action

/+ 3 on'the Puific Gas & Electric Ccapany application vill not be taken until the report by the U. 5. Geological Survey has been received

g and evaluated. Further, a constructica pezuit will not be issued i

I unless the Connission, following a public hearing and a decision r

by the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board and consideration of all k

E-factors bearing upon safety is convinced that the facility can be L

constructed and operated at the proposed location without undue f

risk to the health and safety of the public.

Enclosed is a penphlet which describes the procedures relating to i

the licensing of power resetors by the Atomic Energy Commission.

W The public will be given thirty days notice of the date of the public hearing to be held at Santa Rosa in this matter through a notice published in the Federal Register. In addition, a'public announcement will be issual.

We feel confident that these procedures and their provision for public hearing vill enable all interested persons to acquaint themselves with the details of pacific Gas & Electric Company's o
