Dear Sir:

Auxiliary Feedwater System Our letter of November 25, 1985 included a list of Auxiliary Feedwater (AFW) System modifications to be made and our schedule for completing them. The purpose of this letter is to provide status on those action items.

All items scheduled for implementation by startup of the 1986 outage are complete except as noted below. The remaining items are on schedule, and all are expected to be complete by startup of the 1987 refueling outage.

The following items were either not completed by startup in 1986 as originally scheduled or had final action which was different than originally described:

Item Description I B.2 The turbine AFW pump electrical overspeed trip was not deleted. During testing, the mechanical overspeed trip was determined to be inconsistent and erratic. Further evaluation of the mechanical overspeed trip with the turbine vendor is scheduled. Depending on the outcome of this evaluation, the electrical overspeed trip may be permanently retained. Final action on this item will be complete by startup of the 1987 refueling outage.

, B.S. C.3 A new detailed calibration procedure for the diesel- and I turbine-driven AFW pumps Woodward Governor Control System was not developed because an adequate procedure is already in place. No further action is required.

C.5 The three timers were not replaced. One timer was removed as a result of a design change. The other two timers were evaluated and determined to be adequate.

Sincerely, y
