Mr. Steven A. Varga Director, PWR-A Project Directorate No. 3 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington DC 20555
Dear Mr. Varga:
Auxiliary Feedwater System Our letter of August 21, 1986 provided status on a list of modifications to be made to the Auxiliary Feedwater (AFW) System. One planned modification, removal of the electrical overspeed trip (Item B.2), was being reevaluated due to problems with the mechanical overspeed trip. The problems were identified during setpoint verification testing and resulted in disassembly and overhaul of the trip mechanism.
Considering these recent difficulties and the fact that the electrical overspeed trip has not been a cause of spurious trips at the Trojan Plant, it appears prudent not to perform the modification. Therefore, the electrical overspeed trip will remain operational to provide greater assurance of AFW overspeed protection.
Sincerely, S
