Dear Sirs:

Trojan Nucicar Plant Long-Term Pipe Support Design Verification Program

-In Attachment 2 to our letter of January 20,-1989, " Design Verification Programs", Portland General Electric Company (PCE) reported the results of an evaluation of architect-engineer original civil engineering design activities. Several commitments were made in respor<? to findings of that evaluation.

By letter dated April 14, 1989, "Long-Term Pipe Support Design Verification Program", PGE reported that changes to the Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR), that were committed in our January 20 letter, would be completed by August 31, 1989 to correspond with a scheduled FSAR amendment. The intended FSAR amendment will not be issued until-the end of September; therefore, the t v completion date for committed changes to the FSAR is September 30, 19 J.

By letter dated May 25, 1989, "Long-Term Pipe Support Design Verification Program". PGE reported that the performance of confirmatory structural design adequacy evaluatuns for the Turbine and Fuel Buildings, that were committed in our January 20 letter, would be completed by August 31, 1989.

The calculations involved in the evaluations are in final signature, expected to be complete by September 1. The evaluation of the Turbine Building has confirmed that it meets the FSAR commitments for seismic and tornado loading conditions. The evaluation of the Fuel Building has confirmed and quantified code overstresses existing under seismic and tornado loading conditions, as we anticipated in our i .O 121 SW Sa!; Ton Street Potand Oregon 97204

As a logical progression in the resolution of problems identified in the Design Verification Program, a formal action plan is being created to resolve the overstress conditions. Details of the action plan will be forwarded to you by September 29, 1989.
