Arkansas Nuclear One - Unit One Reportable Event 50-316/80-018

Dear Sir:

This letter is to confirm the telephone conversation between Mr. Bill Johnson (NRC, Region IV) and Mr. J. P. O'Hanlon (Arkansas Nuclear One, General Manager) at 1200 on May 24, 1980. This is reported to you in accordance with T.S. 6.12.3.1.f.

Investigation related to I.E. Bulletin 80-08 revealed that one Reactor Building flued head penetration weld (FW-P-51-1) had not been repaired to correct a lack of fusion defect identified during construction. The weld defect will be repaired prior to returning to power operation. No other penetration welds were found to have unrepaired defects and I.E.

Bulletin 80-08 investigations are complete. Therefore, this item is considered an isolated case.
