Dear Mrs Davis:
This special report is submitted, in accordance with Technical Specification 3.3.3.3 Action b, to inform you that the Free Field Seismic Trigger has been inoperable for longer than 30 days.
The trigger was removed from the Free Field Monitor on March 24,
- 1989, and used to replace the Reactor Pit Seismic Trigger which had been damaged during calibration.
The model of the trigger that was damaged is no longer available and a design change was approved to allow the purchase and installation of a comparable substitute.
- However, since it was uncertain how long it would be before a new trigger could be obtained and since the reactor pit may not have been accessible at that time, it was decided to replace the Reactor Pit Seismic Trigger with one taken from the Free Field, which is accessible at all times.
It should be noted that the triggers are normally wired in parallel and, therefore, perform the same function.
It is anticipated that the new trigger will arrive and be installed by July 31, 1989.
